A Founding partner of Mutate Records: Super Deejay Bobzilla is quite literally overjoyed to offer out his first full release on his rather spiffing label.

‘I Usually Don’t Do Dis’ or I.U.D.D.D. as we lovingly call it here at Mutate HQ is a mouthwatering package of diverse styles from some of Electronic Dance Music’s fostered sons.

The Original Mix takes you into the twisted, broken mind of Super Deejay Bobzilla himself, a purveyor of the jump-up funk since he was in nappies/dypers (delete as applicable). This full release on his beloved Mutate follows the huge success of his track ‘Rip Dat Shit’ on the highly acclaimed ‘Mutations Vol 3′ compilation.

Drafted in for remix duties are new additions to the Mutate Family: Perpetual Present who open up the remix package with a solid, tuff tech driven breaks remix, already receiving seriously high acclaim from many evangelists of bass.

Those bastions (or is that basterds?!) of the Breaks scene: Ben & Lex, deliver a big time, twist out breaks remix that, once again, stamps their authority as one of the breaks scene’s freshest production teams and deserved Breakspoll winners.

This week: Down 3, at 3, are Unique 3 – Edzy’s signature big boom sound transforms the original into a big tent rave offering that just can’t wait to be released on the twisted festival crowds this summer.

In at 4 – Disco Assassins with their fresh as you like electro beat bonanza, aimed directly at those big room, prime slot dancefloors.

Adding some serious Sheffield Steel is our favourite closet circuit bender: Kickflip. This full release version is the 28th recording of his mix, such a perfectionist is this man, which is simply why he’s one of the most talented producers in the country.

Kicking in the back door is Casual Bill – lifting the middle finger at the breakbeat rulebook, before unleashing the oversized beats is a Texan who is set become a familiar name on the lips of bass lovers worldwide.

So it’s that time again when all the South West crews are out whoring for you’re votes to be crowned best bumpkin in the west, this time around the event is bigger and badder than ever before with much more emphasis on breaks in the very tasty line up!

We won best South West Breaks DJ last year and we would be over the moon to win again so if you can spend a few minutes casting your votes via this simple online form we will be eternally grateful.

Fresh from picking up their award for Best Podcast I have an awesome remix by these guys which sounds nothing like their usual style. As well as running their successful Ape Music label and brand Ben & Lex are the long serving residents of Beatz & Bobz which has been running in Exeter now for around 13 years. These guys are renowned all over for being fine purveyors of making and playing hard edged breaks which smashes dancefloors to bits. This track that they’ve made available for download however is a remix for Plymouth DJ Aldo Vanucci and is a really nice funked up affair featuring vocals from Amie J. It came out on Good Living Records last year but can be yours for free by checking out the link below.

Unless you have been asleep under a barrell for the last few months you will have seen that the busiest men in breaks have been beavering away non-stop dropping some killer remixes but now they are back with no doubt their biggest original release so far!!

Mixmag – Tune of the Month 5/5

The Westcountry DJ duo, Ben Ervine and Alex Shellard have long served the mega-rave community as residents of Exeter’s Beatz & Bobz night. If this single is anything to go by, this year promises to be their most exciting to date. It’s cheeky montage of fifty seven varieties of classic loops pays homage to the grooves that crowds have come to know and love, making it an instant anthem.

The dastardly Exeter breaks twosome really deserve some breaks themselves, as they’ve been beavering away at the coalface for ages, and ‘All Da Breakz’ owes a large debt to the mischief and mayhem of bass music. Neo junglist steppa beats begin a marauding romp that takes in a dirty burrowing bassline, jump up bashment vibes, hardcore hip-hop MCing, Casio bleeps, Grandmaster Flash samples, high-pitched dog whistles, and maybe even the kitchen sink. It’s a boss tune, and on ‘Soundboy Step Up’ they turn in an equally well-worked dubstep piece.

Our very own Westcounrty breakbeat warriors Ben and Lex picked up a award last night at this years Breakspoll (The international breakbeat awards) held at Fabric in London. After receiving the award for best podcast they gave a speech signed of with Big up the Devon massive’

Great news for Ben and Lex to get such global recognition as they have been working away on the scene relentlessly for many moons, 2010 is set to be a big year for them, watch out!
